10 Designer Bags You Shouldn’t Buy In 2023

Welcome to our list of 10 Designer Bags You Shouldn’t Buy In 2023!

If you were wondering which designer bags to buy this year, you have come to the right place. Here I’ll show you designer bags that are going out of style, so it is not worth investing in them. Some bags you’ll see here are already out of fashion, others are soon to be. But if you like any of these bags, who cares what any one says? You should buy the bag you love and if you already own any of these bags, don’t stop wearing them just because they are out of style.

So, without further ado here are 10 Designer Bags You Shouldn’t Buy In 2023:

10. Jacquemus Le Chiquito

Jacquemus greatest hit and the bag responsible for starting the mini bag trend, Le Chiquito bag is out of style! Crafted in Italy from smooth leather, it comes with a long, adjustable shoulder strap that can be attached and worn across the body. This top handle was extremely popular a few years ago, but we have to agree micro bags aren’t practical at all, so they are going out of style this year. We have been seeing in the past seasons a shift in fashion, people value comfort and function over style and trends, so it is time to retire mini bags.

The Le Chiquito bag was iconic of its time, but is not a bag you should buy this year.

9. Fendi Kan I Bag

The Fendi Kan I bag was launched in 2017 and was instantly popular. This boxy top handle came in several different models, studded with jewels or accented by the F logo. It has a chain strap that allows both shoulder and crossbody carry. This bag is iconic of it’s time, but the trend has passed.

The Fendi Kan I is a bag that will soon be discontinued by the brand and is out of style. So is not a bag you should invest in this year.

8. Bottega Veneta Pouch

One of the first products Lee made when he arrived at Bottega the Pouch was a phenomenon: an It bag when It bags were no longer supposed to exist. Inspired by a Bottega Veneta bag carried by Lauren Hutton in American Gigolo, the Pouch is a squishy, oversized clutch that is crafted of butter-soft leather. With no strap and a dumpling like shape, Bottega Veneta’s merchandising team was so concerned the Pouch would not sell, that it ordered a very limited amount for stores at first. However, what the Pouch lacked in functionality, it made up for in aesthetics. This bag started an internet craze, you could not go on Instagram without seeing this bag. But today, 4 years after the bag’s launch, the Pouch is not so popular anymore.

I’m not saying it is out of style, but it will be soon, so now it is not the time to buy one. If you would like to buy a Bottega Veneta bag this year, the Jodie is always a good idea!

7. Gucci Soho Disco

Although this is an iconic style of the brand, and a great entry-level bag, there are other designer bag options that you wouldn’t have to worry about going out of style. In 2012 the then creative director Frida Giannini launched the Soho Disco bag line, reported to be inspired by the party lifestyle of girls and boys around Soho. Included in the line was a camera-style crossbody bag crafted with a pebbled calfskin leather and embossed with the interlocking double-G logo. And like all Gucci bags, the Soho Discos are crafted in Prato, just outside of Florence. For the finishing touch the bag features a heavy tassel as a zipper pull. The bag quickly gained ‘it bag’ status and appeared on the shoulder of ‘it girls’ worldwide, specially in the more colorful models.

Now this Gucci bag is only available in black and beige, since this style is not so popular anymore. There are rumors Gucci will discontinue this line, so now would not be the time to buy it. Is one of the 10 Designer Bags You Shouldn’t Buy In 2023!

6. Chloé Marcie

The Marcie was designed in 2010 by Hannah MacGibbon, who was creative director from 2008 to 2011. The Marcie is an easygoing hobo bag with an equestrian twist that is until this day beloved by many. This model stands out for its curved, saddle-like front flap with topstitching details. The house has played with different finishings and proportions, and the roundness of the mini Marcie resembles the distinctive circular shape of the perfume bottle from the brand’s first fragrance, launched in 1975.

This bag is iconic of the 2010’s and I do see this bag coming back in style in a few years. But as of 2023 it is definitely out of fashion.

5. Louis Vuitton Pochette Métis

With its on-trend satchel silhouette, the Pochette Métis bag reached it’s popularity peak a few years ago, so now it is going out of style. This compact, go-everywhere model features a distinctive S-lock closure with a polished gold-tone finish. Versatile and unexpectedly roomy, it is fitted with a chic top handle and a long detachable strap for shoulder or cross-body wear. It comes in epi leather or in the House’s Monogram canvas. This bag was so popular you would see it everywhere, and of course that leads to a saturation in the market.

If you are looking to buy a Louis Vuitton bag this year, I would recommend the classics, like the Alma and the Speedy. But remember, if you already own this bag, there is no reason to stop wearing it! You should wear what you love, no matter the trends.

4. Balenciaga Hourglass

Let’s just say we are not buying any Balenciaga Bags this year. In the Fall of 2019, the brand introduced a new bag that was instantly a hit, but now, after the whole fiasco, this bag is out of style. It is said that this was Demna’s attempt to steer back a little from his loud streetstyle and into a more mature one but without losing its core. The Hourglass Bag gets its name from the unique curved shape of the bag, a reference to Cristobal Balenciaga’s signature Basque-waist coats. The design of this bag is incredibly unique, and it’s finished with a flap closure accented with a matte gold B.

I know Balenciaga apologized and made some donations to charity, but I cannot support the brand until they change their creative direction.

3. Gucci Marmont Bag

This is not so much a single bag as it is a whole family of bags, with different colors, materials and patterns. Not long into his tenure as Gucci’s creative director, Michele gave us the Marmont bags with a chain-strap crossbody as the signature style. They debuted on the fall 2016 runways, capturing everything Michele intended to bottle up and sell in bag form: the untethered bohemian spirit of the ’70s and the glamour of the Chateau Marmont, the hotel representing the old Hollywood glamour. On the bag, Michele introduced his flipped Gucci logo, adorning a semi-puffed chevron-style quilted pattern.

I know this bag is beloved by many, but with each year that passes this bag becomes less and less popular. It is on it’s way to being completely out of fashion. Is one of the 10 Designer Bags You Shouldn’t Buy In 2023!

2. Prada Nylon Re-Edition 2000

This nylon handbag was originally conceptualized in 1979, then relaunched in 1985. But the real success of this bag is due to the 90’s and early 2000’s style. Prada recently released two new editions of the vintage nylon mini bag, the 2000 and the 2005. Both bags have the famous baguette semblance and are constructed out of a combination of Saffiano leather and nylon. This bag became super popular once it launched, you would see it everywhere! But from now on we’ll start to see this bag less and less.

I’m not saying this bag is out of style now, but it is going to be in a few months. So, it pains me to say, you should not buy this bag in 2023.

1. Chanel Gabrielle Bag

Inspired by Gabrielle Chanel herself, this bag was a breakout success when it launched. Introduced in the Spring/Summer 2017 show, the Gabrielle bag marked Chanel’s first major handbag launch since ‘The Boy’ in 2011. Inspired by virtual reality goggles, Karl Lagerfeld playfully designed the Gabrielle bag, confidently leaning into unisex fashion. The Gabrielle came in a classic hobo version, a backpack, large shopper and a more whimsical handbag shape. Further enhancing the functionality of the Gabrielle is the double straps of different lengths, transforming this Chanel handbag for any occasion.

I love Karl Lagerfeld designs, but unfortunately this bag is not one that will transcend trends. There are rumors Chanel will discontinue this bag. So it is not a bag you should be buying this year.
