Adele and Edoardo Fendi founded the FENDI fashion house in Rome in 1925. In 1926, the first boutique in via del Plebiscito, which included a handbag store and a fur business, opened. Since then the brand has designed some of the most iconic and classic bags ever, and the Peekaboo is one of them.
The History of The Fendi Peekaboo Bag:
Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi this bag was first presented at Fendi’s Spring 2009 show. Silvia said about the bag: “Simplicity is the new eccentricity. I was looking for a traditional, yet modern contemporary shape, able to satisfy the most sophisticated women. The simplicity relies in the concept of whispered luxury, resembled by a unique contrast between the rich materials in the inside and its essential materials on the outside. The only occasion in which a woman would be recommended to walk around with an unfastened and unlocked bag.”
The Peekaboo can be worn partially open or partially closed, depending on your perspective. It includes multiple compartments and a double fastening. The bag’s name comes from the way it looks when it is only partially closed: a suggestion of a surprise difference in color, leather, or texture. The Peekaboo’s materials, like those of the Baguette, change with the seasons. For the Fall 2020 collection, Fendi reinvented the bag to make it appear even more open; this is the Peekaboo I See U edition. It comes in a variety of colors, designs, and sizes, as well as exotic leathers, fur, and calfskin. The bag really is an icon of the house.
