Gucci vs. Fendi: Which Bags Are Better?

Gucci vs. Fendi: Which Bags Are Better?

Welcome to our post about Gucci vs. Fendi: Which Bags Are Better?

With similar history, prices and styles it can be hard to choose the best brand. In my opinion there is not one clear superior brand, so I thought I would show you which bags I believe are better in each category. So here you’ll see which is the best tote, the best crossbody and so forth. Let me know in the comments which of the two brands is your favorite!

So, without further ado here is: Gucci vs. Fendi: Which Bags Are Better?

Shoulder Bag: Fendi Baguette Bag

It was very hard to choose between the Gucci Jackie and the Fendi Baguette, but ultimately, because of its role in pop culture, I had to choose the Fendi Baguette. It was 1997, when minimalism was all the rage, that Fendi launched the first It Bag in history, the Fendi Baguette. The bag was anything but minimalist, but because of it’s iconic style and pop culture it became one of the most important bags in fashion history. The bag was designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi. It was intended to be worn under the arm in the very same way French people are usually seen carrying their baguettes. The bag was a breakout success. More than 100,000 bags were sold in the first year alone, and its appearance in Sex and The City solidified it’s place as the ultimate It Bag.

Today, 26 years after its debut, the Fendi Baguette, remains a stylish it bag that is iconic of the brand and one of the most classic designer shoulder bags!

Crossbody Bag: Gucci Horsebit 1955 Bag

Fendi doesn’t offer a crossbody bag as iconic and classic as the Gucci Horsebit! As the legend goes, the horsebit hardware entered Gucci’s arsenal in 1953. It was Aldo Gucci—recognizing that shoppers liked a side of history with their handbags—who perpetuated the myth that the Gucci family had once been saddlemakers to nobility. Since the horsebit appeared on a handbag in 1955, that elegant hardware has become as recognizable as the Chanel double Cs. Reintroduced at the house’s cruise 2020 collection, the reprised Gucci Horsebit 1955 bag comes in various shapes, like tote, satchel and shoulder bag, all unified by the instantly identifiable double D-rings.

After all, there’s no need for a Gucci logo when its signature hardware is present.

Work Bag: Fendi Peekaboo Bag

The Peekaboo is elegant, practical, durable and perfect for any occasion! Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi this bag was first presented at Fendi’s Spring 2009 show. This is the only bag a woman would be recommended to wear unfastened and unlocked. The Peekaboo has been designed with several compartments and a double closure so that it can be worn half-open – or half-closed. When it is only half closed, the bag hints at a color, texture, or leather creating a surprising contrast – hence its name. It comes in exotic leathers, fur and calfskin, and also comes in multiple colors, patterns and sizes.

The Peekaboo is sleek, classic and timeless, it will always be chic.

Top Handle Bag: Gucci Bamboo 1947 Bag

No Fendi top handle bag is as iconic as the Gucci Bamboo. This was the first designer handbag to ever be crafted with bamboo! In post-war 1947, when traditional materials were difficult to find, Guccio Gucci and the House’s Florentine artisans decided to use the lightweight, durable bamboo for the handle of a new bag, forging an instant emblem. A material that speaks to the long-lasting traditions that come together to create Gucci’s heritage, this bag’s bamboo handles are curved using a flame. Alessandro Michelle brought the Gucci Bamboo back in his Aria collection in 2021, with options in leather and logo canvas. The style is enriched by a detachable Web strap that allows the accessory to be worn on the shoulder or as a top handle.

Classic, yet contemporary at the same time, and designed to be worn again and again, Gucci’s Bamboo bags are timeless pieces meant to be kept forever.

Bucket Bag: Fendi Mon Tresor Bag

Gucci has some great bucket bags in the Ophidia and Marmont lines, but the Fendi Mon Tresor is a classic staple of the brand that will always be chic! Introduced for summer 2018 this Fendi bag is one of the most famous designer bucket bags. The name translates into my treasure which we have to agree suits the bag perfectly. This is a small bag that would fit just the essentials, it features a drawstring fastening and F logo metal accents. The bag comes with two detachable straps, one long and one short, to carry the bag by hand, over the shoulder or cross-body.

It comes in several materials and prints, all perfect for everyday wear!

Tote Bag: Gucci Diana Tote

The Fendi Sunshine tote is an amazing tote bag but the Gucci Diana is way more iconic! Lady Diana was often saw out and about with a bamboo-handled Gucci bag. It often accompanied her on trips to the gym, with her iconic sweatshirts and biker shorts outfits. Even in gym clothes, she made it look divine. Unfortunately the bag was discontinued a few years later. On the day that would have been Princess Diana’s 60th birthday, former creative director Alessandro Michele presented a reinterpretation of the beautiful tote. Called the Diana, the bag is a bamboo-handled tote much like the version worn by the Princess. Since it’s launch the bag has become super popular! Besides it is a perfect everyday bag that will always be chic!

The Gucci Diana represents the cycle of reinvention and being free to be who you are – something the original poster girl for this bag would no doubt support.
