The History of the Fendi Baguette Bag, one of the most iconic bags ever designed, is one worth getting to know! It was 1997, when minimalism was all the rage, that Fendi launched the first It Bag in history, the Fendi Baguette. The bag was anything but minimalist, but because of its iconic style and pop culture it became one of the most important bags in fashion history. The bag was designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi. It was intended to be worn short strapped under the arm in the very same way French people are usually seen carrying their baguettes. Since its launch the bag was a breakout success. More than 100,000 bags were sold in the first year alone, and its appearance in Sex and The City solidified its place as the ultimate It Bag.
Over time it has evolved into different sizes, materials and colors. Each new season there is a new Fendi Baguette for us to fall in love with!
The History of the Dior Saddle Bag:
The Dior Saddle bag, one of the most iconic bags of the brand, has a history that is worth getting to know! The Dior Saddle bag was designed in 1999 by John Galliano. The first reaction for the bag was chock: it was said to be ugly or high fashion, or in some cases both. But with time the bag has become the icon that it is today! In the early 2000`s the bag was sported by everyone, from Beyoncé to Carrie Bradshaw. The bag is intended to be worn short trapped and tight against the arm like a saddle, hence the name. After the enormous success of the bag in the Y2K, the bag was discontinued in the 2010’s. In 2018 Maria Grazia Chiurri relaunched this bag and it has since become a part of the classic styles of the brand.
At this point the Saddle can already be considered a classic! More than 20 years after its launch it remains one of the most popular bags of the brand!

Some of the most iconic shoulder bags in fashion history, is hard to choose between them. The style of the bags, although comparable, is very different. While they are both loud luxury accessories the Saddle carries a bohemian and equestrian vibe, while the Baguette boasts Y2K style. As for the price, the Baguette is around $500 cheaper, and that can make a big difference on a budget! I believe both bags are iconic and will not go out of style, but since I have to choose one, I would say the Fendi Baguette is the better option! It has an everlasting silhouette and you cannot go wrong with the first It Bag in history!
