With similar history, prices and styles it can be hard to choose the best brand. In my opinion there is not one clear superior brand, so I thought I would show you which bags I believe are better in each category. So here you’ll see which is the best tote, the best crossbody and so forth. Let me know in the comments which of the two brands is your favorite!

Bucket Bags: Louis Vuitton Noé
There is a clear winner in the battle between the Goyard Flot bucket bag and the Louis Vuitton Noé bucket bag. The Louis Vuitton Noé was the first bucket bag ever designed, it started a whole new style of handbags! Inspired by 16th-century handbag designs, which centered around drawstring beaded pouches for both men and women, today’s boxier inceptions have Gaston-Louis Vuitton to thank. In 1932 a Champagne producer asked Vuitton to develop a sturdy, stylish bag in which he could transport five bottles of Champagne. And so the Noé was created. Today the Noé is a classic style of the house that retains key features of the original, like the iconic shape, generous volume and drawstring closure, but is made for modern life.
While the Goyard Flot is a great bucket bag, the Noé is the better option because of its history.
Evening Clutch: Goyard Monte-Carlo Clutch
Louis Vuitton has many clutch options, but none as iconic as the Monte-Carlo Clutch. The Monte-Carlo PM clutch interprets some of Goyard’s signature trunk elements like its wooden rod, bracket corners and trunk rivets. With its strap it can be worn over the shoulder or across the chest. The clutch bag is a tribute to the historic Goyard store in Monte Carlo in the early 20th century, a period symbolic of the rise of cars and a new art of travel. An icon of the Mason and a clutch bag that would take you trough any occasion, the Monte-Carlo is one of the best designer clutch bags ever!

Shoulder Bag: Louis Vuitton Loop
Goyard doesn’t have a shoulder bag that is as stylish, trendy and iconic as the Louis Vuitton Loop. Created by Nicolas Ghesquière for the Cruise 2022 Collection, the Loop handbag is a half-moon baguette, inspired by the Croissant bag from the House archives. It has a body-friendly, compact shape and a chain for shoulder carry, as well as a cross-body leather strap. As I said, this is a new version of the Louis Vuitton Croissant bag, which is a classic style of the brand that is becoming super popular once more.
This is a super stylish bag that can be worn from day to night, nothing could be more practical.
Duffle Bag: Louis Vuitton Speedy
The Goyard Boston is an amazing duffle bag, but because of its history, availability in multiple sizes and the practicality of the shoulder strap, the Louis Vuitton Speedy wins this one. The Louis Vuitton Speedy was first introduced in the 1930s but remains one of the most recognizable and popular styles of all LV bags and is an amazing choice for 2024. The LV Speedy purse was designed in response to advances in public transportation and the new need for a compact lightweight bag that was also large enough to hold your daily necessities. The shape is a mini version of the Louis Vuitton Keepall. This Louis Vuitton bag was made popular in the 1960s when Audrey Hepburn was seen carrying the Speedy multiple times, people say the mini size was designed especially for her.
The original Louis Vuitton Speedy bag was designed without a strap, but in 2011 Louis Vuitton released the Speedy Bandoulière with an adjustable shoulder strap that can be removed. Until this day the Speedy remains one of the most collectible Louis Vuitton bags, it will always be chic.
Top Handle Bag: Goyard Vendôme Bag
The Louis Vuitton Alma is an amazing top handle, but I chose the Goyard Vendôme for this category because it is not so well known and you won’t see it around as much. The Vendôme bag is named after Place Vendôme, one of Paris’s most beautiful squares. The center of French elegance, it is a short walk from Goyard’s historic store at rue Saint-Honoré. Maison Goyard was the first Parisian designer to create a dome-shaped bag in the early 20th century. This elegant top handle is available in mini, PM and MM sizes, and of course all the beautiful colors the brand is famous for.
Chic and practical this is a bag you’ll love all your life.
Crossbody Bag: Goyard Belvédère Bag
Louis Vuitton has many crossbody options, but the Belvédère is a practical crossbody that is perfect for everyday wear. The Belvédère bag is a reinterpretation of the small bag worn by log drivers to carry something to eat while they were working. It takes its name from the belvedere or viewpoint overlooking Clamecy. Streamlined and light, the Belvédère bag is perfect for many occasions thanks to its crossbody strap and accessible secure closure. With interior and exterior pockets, it is also very practical for organizing your belongings. The older Belvédère features two buckle closures, while the newer iteration includes a single pull-through closure on the front flap.
This is a bag you’ll be wearing all your life, you will not regret buying this one!
Tote Bag: Louis Vuitton Neverfull
This was a tough choice, you cannot go wrong with neither of them, but when comparing styles, prices, retention values and history, my personal favorite is the Louis Vuitton Neverfull. Introduced in 2007 and thought to be created to compete with Goyard’s St. Louis Tote, the Neverfull is made of coated canvas and is an icon of the brand. This bag is an amazing companion to take to the beach, to the airport or even to work. In 2013, Louis Vuitton updated their signature tote to include a detachable accessories pouch, and they began introducing additional interior lining colors with an updated print, and a full leather version. When Louis Vuitton launched the OnTheGo tote it appeared that the Neverfull would be left behind, but so far, the Neverfull has truly proven to be a mainstay of the house.
As of May 23 you can only buy the Neverfull if you join a waitlist that is reported to be two to three months long, which increased demand for this iconic style. It sells on the resale market for 136% of the original price, making it an amazing investment!
