Welcome to the list of My Ultimate Designer Bag Wishlist!
I talk a lot about designer bags, so of course my own wishlist is never-ending. I thought I would show you my designer bag wishlist, a couple of these I already own and would repurchase in a heartbeat, while the others are my ultimate dream bags. It was really hard choosing the top 10, so I’m sure I have forgotten a few, so let me know in the comments which bags I should add to the list! I have to say I have a pretty classic style, so that is what you’ll see here, these are timeless bags that I love.
So, without further ado here are My Ultimate Designer Bag Wishlist:
1. Hermès Birkin Bag
The story of the invention of the Birkin bag — the result of the chance meeting in 1983 between actress Jane Birkin and Jean-Louis Dumas, then creative director of Hermès — has become legendary among Hermès lovers. The two were seated next to each other on an international flight. When Dumas asked why she travelled with a simple straw tote, Birkin explained that most leather bags were too structured for her taste. She wanted something more boho and the two came up with the design for the bag on that flight, on the back of a napkin. And so, the Birkin was created. The Birkin is one of the most classic and iconic bags in the world, so of course it is high on my wishlist! I believe Birkin bags are supposed to be worn, not cherished, so my dream Hermès bag would be a Birkin 30 or 35 Retourne in either gold, black or grey, to be worn daily and for traveling!
The price of a Birkin bag when you buy from an Hermès store varies from $9,000 to around $12,000.
2. Lady Dior
In 1995 Bernadette Chirac, then First Lady of France, requested Dior to custom design a bag for Lady Diana. The bag was gifted to the princess while she was on an official visit to Paris, it instantly became one of her favorite bags! After that Lady Diana was spotted multiple times carrying the bag, so Dior decided to change it’s name to the Lady Dior in 1996, with the princess’s blessing. Described as iconic and legendary the brand launched the bag in a larger series, becoming a favorite of Dior clients. This is a bag that will take you through any occasion, it goes from day to evening seamlessly.
This has always been one of my favorite designer bags, it is timeless and chic and I would love to have it in a few different colors and sizes!
3. Chanel Classic Flap
The Chanel handbag that would ultimately become synonymous with the brand was not created until 1983. The Chanel Classic Double Flap was first introduced when Karl Lagerfeld became creative director and decided to reinterpret Chanel’s iconic 2.55 Flap Bag. From his artistic vision came two new features – a leather woven chain and Double C turn-lock closure. Lagerfeld’s Classic Double Flap was a breakout success. Almost forty years later, and out of all the Chanel handbags on the market, the Classic Double Flap remains one of the most sought-after pieces ever crafted.
As I said, I have a very classic style when it comes to handbags and this one is a must-have for me!
4. Hermès Kelly Bag
In 1935 Émile-Maurice Hermès diversified the brands offerings designing a bag for his wife to carry. Called the Sac à Dépêches the bag was practical and elegant with a classic style. The accessory achieved worldwide recognition in 1956 when the American actress and princess of Monaco Grace Kelly used her Sac à Dépêches to cover her pregnant belly. As soon as the photo of that is published on the cover of Life Magazine women from all over the world start running to Hermès asking for the Kelly Bag. In response the brand changed the bags name to the Kelly, and history was made.
Today an icon of elegance and sophistication, the Kelly is one of the most sought-after bags on the resale market, not only for its timeless style but also for the enduring allure of the woman it is named after. My dream Kelly bag would be a Kelly 25 or 28 Sellier in a light and bright color, perfect for summer!
5. Fendi Peekaboo
This is a practical but beautiful and iconic bag for everyday wear, I love this one! Designed by Silvia Venturini Fendi this bag was first presented at Fendi’s Spring 2009 show. This is the only bag a woman would be recommended to wear unfastened and unlocked. The Peekaboo has been designed with several compartments and a double closure so that it can be worn half-open – or half-closed. When it is only half closed, the bag hints at a color, texture, or leather creating a surprising contrast – hence its name. It comes in exotic leathers, fur and calfskin, and also comes in multiple colors, patterns and sizes. The Peekaboo is sleek, classic and timeless, and it is no surprise that it instantly became beloved amongst celebrities and stylish women around the globe.
Like a laidback version of the Kelly, the Peekaboo is a bag you can be sure you will be wearing it for many years to come!
6. Louis Vuitton Capucines
The now-classic Capucines handbag displays a host of House signatures: leather-wrapped LV Initials, jewel-like handle mounts inspired by historic trunks, and a distinctive flap with a Monogram Flower motif. Timelessly elegant, this charming model can be carried by hand or worn cross-body on its detachable strap. First launched in 2013, the Capucines is named for the Parisian street where Louis Vuitton first opened shop, in 1854. Since its launch, this bag has become one of the most famous Louis Vuitton bags. The quality of the bag and the attention to the detail is unmatched. It’s a sophisticated style, perfect for both day and night.
I have some Louis Vuitton bags in the monogram canvas, but I have to say the Capucines is my dream bag from the brand, it is so elegant and chic!
7. Prada Cleo Bag
You probably noticed that this bag is frequently featured on my videos, that is because I have this one and I love it! The Prada Cleo Bag is becoming a classic staple of the brand, it was launched in late 2020 and is more popular with each year that passes. The Cleo draws inspiration from Prada’s hobo bags from the 1990s archives and is crafted using traditional manufacturing techniques. Its construction incorporates some of the brand’s codes, including flowing lines, sloping sides and an enveloping shape. Feminine, elegant and modern, this Prada Cleo bag is made of fine brushed leather, an expression of the brand’s expertise. The Cleo bag now comes in a mini size, with a shoulder strap and also with a flap, not to mention the multiple colors, patterns and materials.
You can wear the Prada Cleo to any occasion, it is a chic, cool and beautiful bag that I would repurchase in a heartbeat!
8. DeMellier Montreal Bag
DeMellier has won over just about every woman in the British royal family, specially the Princess of Whales. This eternally chic medium sized bag plays up its triangle shape from every angle, creating an interesting structured look topped by a tubular rigid top handle. You can wear it over the shoulder, cross-body or in hand for a strikingly elegant take on the perfect everyday bag. Available in maxi, medium and mini sizes this top handle will elevate any outfit and will take you through any occasion. Top handles are among the most elegant bag styles, this classic design will always be chic!
This is the cheapest bag on my wishlist, it has amazing style and quality for an affordable price point!
9. Celine Triomphe Bag
I have to say I’m not much of a crossbody girl, I prefer shoulder bags, but we have to agree this is the perfect crossbody bag! The Celine Triomphe bag was designed by Hedi Slimane in 2018 and it bears the Celine logo designed by Celine Vipiana herself. In 1973, Vipiana introduced a newly designed logo that featured an intertwined double C design, with an intricate center pattern that nodded to the architecture of the Arc de Triomphe. The bag has become a classic and its understated and minimalistic look is a perfect representation of the Celine style.
This is a popular bag, but not so much as the Gucci or Louis Vuitton ones we see around, it is an amazing style that I’m dying to get my hands on!
10. Bottega Veneta Jodie Bag
The Jodie is the most classic style of Bottega Veneta, it was originally designed in the 90’s and Daniel Lee brought it back in different sizes and materials. The Jodie bag is the perfect combination of Bottega Veneta’s history with Daniel Lee’s iconic style. From its sumptuous leather to the minimal yet elevated shape, it’s not difficult to get why the bag has a growing legion of fans. It is made from nappa leather in the house’s notable intrecciato weave and comes in a looped-handle silhouette that looks very modern.
I love Bottega Veneta and this is my favorite bag from the brand, the Jodie is chic and effortless and in my opinion the Teen is the perfect size.
