Welcome to The History of the Chanel 2.55 Flap Bag!
Chanel is the French luxury fashion brand we all know and love. It was founded on 1910 by Coco Chanel and today it focuses on woman’s high fashion, ready to wear clothes, luxury goods, perfumes, accessories and leather goods. And one of Chanel’s most iconic bags is 2.55 Flap Bag!
The History of the Chanel 2.55 Flap Bag:
In February 1955, Coco Chanel created the 2.55 Flap Bag, and history was made. The bag was the first ever handbag to come with a shoulder strap, freeing women from the impractical clutch. Every detail of the bag caters to women’s needs. The space in between the two internal pockets is designed to hold a single lipstick, and the back outside pocket is designed to securely hold money without opening the bag. History tells us that when she was designing this bag Coco Chanel was having an illicit affair with a married man, so she designed the zippered inner pocket so she could hide love leathers in there.
The name 2.55 comes from the date of its creation, February of 1955. This bag is to this date one of the most classic, iconic handbags ever. It also served as inspiration for some of the most popular bags we see today, like the Chanel Classic Flap. Is that kind of bag that will never go out of style. Besides, you can wear it from day to night!
The Chanel Classic Flap is a reinterpretation of the 2.55. Karl Lagerfeld updated the design with a leather woven chain and Double C turn-lock closure. But of course the 2.55 is the oldest and perhaps most classic Chanel bag!
The 2.55 is an old money kind of bag, as well as quiet luxury. Finally it is an understated bag that you will love for the rest of your life! The 2.55 is one of The Most Classic Designer Bags Ever!
