The History of the Chanel Classic Flap

Welcome to The History of the Chanel Classic Flap!

Chanel is the French luxury fashion brand we all know and love. It was founded on 1910 by Coco Chanel and today it focuses on woman’s high fashion, ready to wear clothes, luxury goods, perfumes, accessories and leather goods. And Chanel’s most iconic bag is the Classic Flap Bag!

The brand’s most recognizable bag was designed in 1983 by Chanel’s creative director Karl Lagerfeld. He reinterpreted the classic Chanel 2.55 bag which was designed in 1955 by Coco Chanel herself. The 2.55 Flap was the first designer bag to ever come with a shoulder strap, freeing women form the constraints of the impractical clutch. Lagerfeld’s design featured an intertwined chain and leather strap and the iconic Chanel logo turn-lock closure. Since it’s launch the Classic Double Flap was a breakout success!

Almost 40 years later and out of all Chanel handbags on the market the Classic Flap remains one of the most iconic designer bags ever crafted! The History of the Chanel Classic Flap is as iconic as the bag itself.

Chanel Classic Flap – $8,800

In spring 2021, the Chanel Classic Flap was renamed to the 11.12, in honor of the original Medium Classic Flap’s style code – A01112. The 11.12 is sold for $8,800.

Chanel is known for increasing their prices multiple times a year, so it is likely we’ll see Chanel prices on the resale market increase significantly! So now is the time to buy your dream Chanel bag. A Chanel bag is always a good idea!
